Seamless cold chain supports pharmaceutical shipments
Offering seamless connectivity between China and Hong Kong, Hactl and Hacis are working together to ensure that temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical shipments travel safely across the border to Hong Kong and beyond.
In an arrangement that began in early October 2012, Hactl and Hacis have been appointed by the Swiss logistics leader Panalpina Group to transport pharmaceutical supplies from China to overseas countries.
“Successfully managing temperature-sensitive shipments all the way from China to connect with an outbound flight from Hong Kong requires reliable systems, advanced equipment and an uncompromising commitment to timeliness and quality. It is testimony to the close partnership of Hacis and Hactl, as well as the dedication of our staff to provide this specialised service to our customers,” said Vivien Lau, Hacis Managing Director.
Complex workflow
Pharmaceutical shipments throughout the supply chain must be maintained within a precise temperature range, and must comply with strict regulations in transport conditions and quality procedures.
Each Panalpina pharmaceutical shipment is picked up by a Hacis temperature-controlled truck in Shenzhen. The shipment clears cross-border procedures to reach SuperTerminal 1 in Hong Kong, then packed into a special Envirotainer active container, using high-performance insulation and a proven dry-ice-based active temperature control system to maintain the precise temperature required of pharmaceutical products. Hactl will then monitor the containers’ condition regularly and proceed to aircraft loading in a timely manner.
Key success factors
Hactl and Hacis combine their network and experience to ensure throughout the logistics chain that:
• All parties, including Panalpina, Hacis, Hactl, the airline and related government departments remain in constant communications;
• All equipment and facilities comply with stringent requirements of pharmaceutical shipment;
• Cross-border temperature-controlled trucks are ready as and when required;
• Hactl receives the shipments from Hacis timely, and offers assistance to accelerate handling process when necessary.
Jack Liu, Country Head of Air Freight Operations Greater China and Vice President of Panalpina, remarked, “We are very pleased that the ability of Hactl and Hacis providing seamless cross-border delivery under one roof has enhanced our export connectivity and efficiency. Together with such reliable partners, we look forward to supporting the wider industry for the rising demands in temperature-sensitive shipments.”
