MoU heralds expanded service offering in Hong Kong and PRD
A new agreement between the development arm of Hactl Group and a major, publicly listed transport and logistics concern could pave the way for the launch of new services throughout China’s important Pearl River Delta (PRD) industrial region.
HACTL Development Holdings Limited (HDHL) and the giant Chu Kong Shipping Enterprises (Group) Co., Ltd. (CKS), have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which provides for cooperation in the joint development of logistics links and infrastructure in and around Hong Kong International Airport and the PRD region - specifically aimed at further supporting the air cargo sector.
Respective strengths
The cooperation will draw upon the respective strengths of the two companies: CKS’ comprehensive logistics network and ocean handling operations, and Hactl’s expertise in operating the world class air cargo terminal that is SuperTerminal 1, along with providing ancillary services.
CKS operations include major inland terminal and logistics businesses covering 20 cities in the PRD (such as Zhaoqing, Qingyuan, Foshan, Guangzhou and Jiangmen), several bulk cargo berths in the Hong Kong Public Cargo Working Areas, and a private wharf in Tuen Mun. It is also the operator of Hong Kong’s largest high-speed passenger ferry fleet.
CKS and Hactl (through its value added logistics subsidiary, Hacis) have a long history of cooperation; they were formerly partners in Hong Kong’s Marine Cargo Terminal. The first step in the new cooperation will be the formation of a joint working group to assess opportunities within Hactl’s existing air cargo business at Hong Kong International Airport, and CKS’ current logistics activities in Hong Kong and the PRD region.
Diversify and develop
Mr. Xiong Gebing, Chairman / Managing Director of CKS, comments: “This MoU with HDHL provides us with a welcome opportunity to work more closely with the leading force in air cargo handling in Hong Kong. This new agreement will see us diversify and develop our group’s logistics activities, while helping to underpin the status of Hong Kong International Airport as the world’s largest air cargo hub.”
HDHL Chairman and Hactl Chief Executive, Mark Whitehead, adds: “We are delighted to join forces with such a strong and professional partner, and are greatly excited by the many potential opportunities to expand our respective activities and geographic coverage.”
“The eventual collaboration could take any of a number of forms related to air cargo operations in the PRD region. It could also involve Hactl itself, Hacis, HDHL or all three companies.”
